SEO: do-it-yourself or hire-a-pro?

Before the concept of search engine optimization, many people where keen on building websites for the purpose of advertising their business. Some would even hire professionals to build their website, nicely done with graphics, sometimes with Flash animation, and then upload their site on one of the top hosting servers available. The company would hope that after a few days upon hosting the site, they would have lots of customers asking for quotes or inquiring about their rates, etc. It's too easy to do, yet the outcome is far from the desired.

Search engine optimization was put into consideration because a lot of the companies' websites were no where to be seen on search engine results page. Some companies have few customers than expected, some none. Why is that happening? The problem is the content of the website. It probably was not optimized for popular search engines to find.

Considering that it was not optimized, who should you rely to optimize your website? By learning about search engine optimization on the internet, you can apply it to your website. However, it does not necessarily mean that once it is 'optimized,' it would now be on the search engine results page. It could take time and a lot of trials and errors, but somehow it will come out right. For other companies that would like to seek professional help, first find out which SEO company is reliable. Look at their portfolio and verify their claimed successes. Once you are satisfied, you can check out their optimization suggestions.

Choosing between do-it-yourself or hire-a-pro is a matter of the ability of performance and availability of resources of the company. If you can optimize your website, then you should do it. But if you can't, go hire a professional to do it for you.
